Musings from a lazy blogger

30 12 2008

I have been reading a lot of Poems from Rumi,  If you haven’t read Rumi for whatever reason, reconsider.  His writings inspire and enlighten any spiritually aware being.  All his poems are written about, to ,or regarding god.  There is some symbolism that requires a little googling to understand what message he is trying to send but some seem to me to be straight and to the point.  Here is a verse from a poem called “Miles of riverside cane-bed”  Here Rumi’s writing comes to life thanks to Coleman Barks translation.

“The copper of your being has already been transmuted to gold by Moses’ alchemy, and yet you fumble in a moneybag for coins.

You have within you an Egypt, miles of riverside cane-bed, the source of all sweetness, yet you worry weather candy will come from a source outside of yourself.

External form, you reach for shapes, yet you are the Joseph!”

Great stuff.  The book is titled RUMI: Bridge to the soul published by Harper One

So, with the above admonishment I tried my best not to let the holidays become about gifts only and about appreciating time spent with loved ones.

Peace, and remember “Jesus is the SUN of god!”

Heretical Faith?

20 04 2008

For the past decade or so I have been reading up on the esoteric mystery traditions. All three major western religions have a secret side that traditionally has only been divulged to a sparse few individuals: Judaism has Kabbalah. Islam has Sufism (Rumi anyone). And Christianity has an Umbrella term Gnosticism that refers to many groups of religious thought. All three seem to have gained popularity in the same time period thanks in no small part to books like The DaVinci Code

and others as subjects of study and the declared faith of many people. I would not consider myself a Gnostic simply because I have no official ties with any organizations in my community, and have not attended any Gnostic mass or event of the like. I wonder how many people have stumbled into Gnosticism and consider themselves Gnostics after watching a few YouTube Videos or a movie or two? I’m no scholar (55 hrs a week running a business tends to limit my discretionary time), but I was reading Carlos Castaneda

before it was mentioned by Mulder on X-files,

and I was reading books on Kabbalah before Madonna made it “cool”.

I haven’t done much research on Hinduism and Buddhism but it seems to me that they have beat us to the punch when it comes to spiritual maturity. So my question to anyone reading this is; Do you think the gnostic population will continue to grow and should it? and what effect if any will this have on the community? Thanks for visiting and please comment. PaulOne.

The man is the moon.

17 04 2008

I have had a revelation.

John the baptist is the moon. He is the witness to the light, he moves the waters(tides) to baptize. Christ is the sun of god, the light of the world. A quote from the bible that seems to support this idea “I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, He will baptize you with the holy spirit and with fire.”(Matt3:11).

The sun does indeed come after the moon and is indeed mightier than the moon. Also the sun comes before the moon. Now lets read the beginning of the gospel according to John, with this revelation in mind. I have replaced “word” with “Sun”.

“1:1 In the beginning was the Sun, and the Sun was with God, and the Sun was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, [1] and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.(John1:1-8).

Maybe the first time didn’t take?

17 04 2008

I started reading the bible from cover to cover a few years ago and was struck with a conundrum on page 1. God separated the light from the darkness twice. Once in Genesis1:4 and again in Genesis 1:18. It begs the question why, maybe the first time didn’t take?

To understand this we have to start with Genesis’ supposed author. Moses was raised by royalty in Egypt as a prince, so he would have been privy to all the teachings of the scholars and priests of that great society. You may know that the pentateuch is a amalgamation of borrowed stories from other mythologies, but what about that separating the light from the darkness twice thing, I have never heard an explanation for that and if one exists please do tell.

I have read Genesis 1 in three versions of the bible; King James Version which relies heavily on the work of William Tyndale and the Septuagint, New living translation, and English Standard Version. I have also read the Hebrew Tnakh which is very interesting.

I believe that the separation in Genesis 1:4 refers to the universes’ creation as a place created by divinity, pervaded by divinity, but shielded from god by god so that life can create the living, and the living can live.

This perplexing conundrum goes to the heart of dualism, non-dualism belief systems. I tend to lean toward the non-dualistic approach. What do you think? please comment.

The Little I know so far.

16 04 2008

The Bible has much to teach us if we don’t take it too seriously. But trying to read the bible without some knowledge as to the esoteric mysteries is like eating a bowl of soup with a fork, your not going to get much out of it. Here are some of my thoughts, please comment.

Jesus said “You therefore must be perfect as your heavenly father is perfect” (Matt 5:48). On the surface this seems an impossibility and one would surely reject it out of hand and see it as a mystery, how can any human be perfect as god? I believe that a soul can have many lives and must strive to return to the source of divinity through trial and error. There are rewards for success and discipline for failure, all the while surrounded by this terrible and awesome universe we exist in. All comes from divinity, we are the shattered vessels of the wedding challis. Come lord, the bride is crying, will you not make the cup whole again? But the lord cannot reach the cup and the bride is inconsolable, so the vessel must find a way to return to the union and fulfill its role.

Revelations:

The universe is in existence to benefit me and god.

First thought, the universe is not here to benefit me. Look around evil, death, destruction the ice-capades etc, everything seems so random, and at times it seems anything goes. Lets delve deeper though; in the beginning when God was all that existed it was just god, undifferentiated divinity. Then god created creation. I do not believe that you or I could exist evolve or learn and grow in perfect union with god. So god created a place called the multiverse and gave us free will, a wonderful and terrible gift. So in this place we are forced into separation from the divine but I truly believe we are destined to reunite with divinity. If this is so then why the separation in the first place? Its obvious to me what we humans get out of this separation, only with separation can we humans be born, grow, learn, evolve, teach, help, and strive to become. However I believe that God benefits from the separation and reunion as well, how? Perhaps he needs our mortal experience, then the reunion with us in the end. Of one thing I am absolutely sure God needs us. We are active participants in creation. So to recap: We come from god. We are separated from god to learn. We are reunited with the divine in the end. Both god and us benefit from this separation and reunion. The universe is required to cause this separation. The universe is in existence to benefit me and god.

Separation, reunion, Separation, reunion, Separation, reunion. Like a vibration. The vibration of a sub atomic particle? Perhaps its all about vibration but at what frequency? Whats the frequency Kenneth?

I think were ready.

Its time to grow up and face the astro-theological basis for many of the stories in the bible, the ancient mystery schools would have disclosed these truths only after rigorous initiations and the adept proving his or her maturity and purity. Today we don’t have time for that. We must grow up individually. May those who have ears hear. Now, the great mysteries are available to anyone smart enough to ask the right questions. We can stand on the shoulders of giants. The myths are sign posts to the divine , we can no longer afford to waste time obsessing on the sign posts! Take note and move in the direction so noted. let those who have eyes see.
